Gay health charity to release guide to safer cruising

The gay men's health charity GMFA is producing a guide to cruising for sex.

According to the charity, the booklet will help gay men "develop their cruising skills and make decisions that will protect themselves and their partners when cruising".

It is asking gay men to anonymously submit their experiences, good and bad.

Matthew Hodson, head of programmes at GMFA, said: “We want to include lots of personal stories in the booklet to highlight the many different situations that men encounter. Whatever your story, chances are there are other guys who’ve been in similar situations and would benefit from hearing about it.”

GMFA project manager Chris Patmore said that the cruising scene in the UK has changed dramatically over the years, with the internet, bars and clubs now the most popular places to cruise.

But he added that the booklet would still offer advice on having sex outdoors.

Having sex outside is not illegal in itself, but participants can risk breaking the law if they are seen by passersby or have sex in public toilets, which are considered public places.

Mr Patmore told PinkNews.co.uk: "The booklet is still at an early stage but it's something we are planning to include.

"The best thing to say at this point is that we are planning to include information and advice on the legalities of sex outdoors – what the law says and what your rights are."
